Tattersalls Ireland announce the launch of the new Sapphire Sale
Tattersalls Ireland is pleased to announce the launch of the all new Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale which will take place at Fairyhouse on Saturday 12th November. The newly branded Sapphire Sale will comprise Flat bred foals, yearlings and breeding stock and will replace the November Flat Foal and Breeding Stock Sale.
Foals sold at recent renewals of the sale have performed at the highest level, most notably 2020 Group 1 Matron Stakes winner CHAMPERS ELYSEES who was sold as a foal by Mantlehill Stud to Aughamore Stud for €12,500 in 2017. The sale is also a proven source of top class juveniles with two of the highest rated two year olds of 2020, Group 2 Norfolk Stakes winner THE LIR JET and Group 3 Molecomb Stakes winner STEEL BULL, both purchased at the 2018 sale for €9,500 and €5,000 respectively.
The Sale has similarly produced a number of spectacular recent pinhooking triumphs, most notably the CABLE BAY colt out of BALLET MOVE, purchased in 2018 by Sophie Buckley for €4,000 and subsequently resold at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale for 160,000 guineas.
The Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale will also present the final opportunity of the year to buy yearlings in Ireland and all Sapphire Sale yearlings will have the added attraction of being eligible for the ever - popular €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes at The Curragh on Irish Champions Weekend. In addition, the vendor of the horse that wins the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes will drive away in a brand-new Overlander R160 2-Stall horsebox.
Commenting on the all new Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale, Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins said:
“Our aim with the new Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale is to build on the success of the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up and September Yearling Sales while also demonstrating the unwavering Tattersalls Ireland commitment to the Flat sector in Ireland. The Sapphire Sale will offer smaller Irish breeders an opportunity to showcase their stock prior to the major breeding stock sales in Europe at a time when buyers will be in Ireland, and addresses the demand from vendors for an Irish based yearling sale at this time of year. We will be looking to increase the quality and number of foals and broodmares on offer and to assemble a selection of high calibre commercial yearlings to ensure the Sapphire Sale becomes a must attend fixture, not only for breeders and pinhookers, but also for Irish, UK and European based trainers, owners and agents. The Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale will be the first European foal and breeding stock sale of the year and we are looking forward to launching the sale with a strong catalogue of flat foals, yearlings and breeding stock."
Tony O'Callaghan, Tally Ho Stud commented:
"We have bought some lovely foals at this sale over the years, particularly last year when purchasing the top lot in the foal section. There are some gems to be found here and we have noticed an increase in competition from a strong international buying bench. We're looking forward to supporting the new concept and being busy at the Sapphire Sale."
Inspections for the Tattersalls Ireland Yearling Sales are about to commence and entries for the Sapphire Sale will close in mid October. For further information regarding the Tattersalls Ireland Sapphire Sale please contact Christopher Farrell +353 87 4295111 or cfarrell@tattersalls.ie.
