TOP PEDIGREES ON OFFER AT FEBRUARY NH SALE
The sale, which has produced graduates such as December’s Grade 1 Lexus Chase winner Road To Riches, currently the second favourite for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, as well as the Grade 3 Kerry Stayers’ Hurdle winner Black Hercules, is split into five sections featuring older horses, horses in training, two-year-olds, yearlings and mares.

Sister to SIMONSIG leads the Two-Year-Old Category
An eye-catching lot in the session for two-year-olds is Lot 18, the Yeats half-sister to the Bingham Novice Hurdle (G1) and Arkle (G1) winner Simonsig. The filly missed her date at the exceptional 2014 November Sale and is again due to be offered by Simmonstown Stud for breeder Simon Tindall.
Attractive Fillies
Throughout the sale there are plenty of well-bred fillies on offer, headlined by Lot 35, the yearling Fair Mix daughter of the Grade 2 winner and Supreme Novices Hurdle (G1) third Amaretto Rose; Lot 155, Yellowford Farm’s Getaway filly out of Millys Gesture, a half-sister to the Grade 1 winners Rhinestone Cowboy and Wichita Lineman; Lot 238, the Presenting half-sister to the Grade 2 juvenile hurdle winner Top Strategy from Rathbarry Stud, while Ennismore Stud sends; Lot 249, a bay Yeats filly out of a half-sister to Drinmore Novice Chase (G1) and Fort Leney Novice Chase (G1) winner Cailin Alainn.
Gold Cup Connections
Yearling colts include Bishopstown Stud’s Getaway colt out of a half-sister to the ten-time winner and Gold Cup (G1) and Lexus Chase (G1) hero Bobs Worth (Lot 47), Lot 62, Moygannon Stud’s bay Yeats colt out of the Listed NH Flat race runner-up Ceol Rua, a half-sister to the Grade 1 Mares’ Hurdle winner Glen Melody; Lot 119 is a Mahler colt, a first foal out of a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1-winning and placed hurdler Harchibald, Lot 149, by Mustameet, is out of a half-sister to the brilliant Grade 1-winning racemare Mariah Rollins from Clongiffin Stud. Sheridan House Stables offers the Presenting first foal out of the Grade 2-winning chaser Noras Fancy, Lot 178.
Sister to World Hurdle winner on Offer
Attractive mares on offer include Cordowna (Lot 262) an unraced 2009 Scorpion mare carrying her first covering to Shirocco. She is a half-sister to the World Hurdle (G1) winner More Of That, the Grade 2 Elite Hurdle winner Santenay, as well as three other black-type performers. Real Papoose (Lot 268) is a half-sister to the Grand National (G3) winner Ballabriggs and to the black-type-placed Letterman. She is sold by Beal House Stud in-foal on an April cover to Fame And Glory.
Leading Sires
Leading sire Flemensfirth has 11 lots due to go through the ring, a number matched by the young sire Fame And Glory, whose foals were in high demand at the November Sale. Robin Des Champs, one of the leading sires by average at the November Sale, has two lots catalogued. Oscar, runner-up in the NH sires’ championship for 2013-14, and Getaway, whose first-crop is three-year-olds of this year, are the most well-represented stallions with 12 lots apiece.
The 2014 renewal of the February Sale saw a 40% increase in aggregate, and an associated 24% rise in average. The top price of €65,000 was given by Aiden Murphy for a Presenting colt out of the Grade 2 winner Pomme Tiepy offered by Cleaboy Stud & Coppice Farm.
