Tingle Creek Joy For Jonbon At Sandown
Derby Sale graduate Jonbon confirmed his position as a leading player in the two-mile division with a faultless display in the Grade 1 Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown.
It was an eighth Grade 1 success for the Nicky Henderson-trained eight-year-old, who was winning the Tingle Creek for a second successive year and ensured he maintained his unbeaten record at the venue.
It was an eleventh win over fences and a sixteenth career win for the JP McManus-owned gelding, who was purchased at the 2019 Derby Sale from Church View Stables by Paul Holden and Michael Shefflin for €140,000.
Energumene confirmed that he remains a contender for two-mile honours, and the former dual Grade 1 Queen Mother Champion Chase winner secured a third Grade 2 Hilly Way Chase at Cork.
The six-time Grade 1 winner was returning from a lengthy absence, but showed he still retains a high level of ability with a commanding ten-length victory.
Trained by Willie Mullins, and running in the colours of Tony Bloom, Energumene was purchased at the 2019 Derby Sale from Moanmore Stables by Tom Lacey for €50,000.
There was Grade 2 success at Cork for July Store Sale graduate Only By Night who continues her rapid rate of improvement with an effortless win.
The six-year-old travelled strongly throughout, and jumped with real fluency before easing to an almost four length victory. She was adding to her debut win over fences at Tipperary, and strikes like she will develop into a big player in this division for the rest of the season.
The Gavin Cromwell-trained mare was purchased at the 2021 July Store Sale from Rathkenty Stud by Cudgley Stud for €13,500.
On the same card at Cork, the Desmond Kenneally owned and trained Pray Tell relished the step back up to three miles with a bloodless win in the Grade 3 novice hurdle.
Twice a winner over hurdles earlier in the season, the eight-year-old is a graduate of the November National Hunt Sale where he was purchased as a yearling from Crohane Stud by his owner for €6,000.
There was listed success at Navan for Sa Fureur, who claimed the valuable handicap chase. A graduate of the Andy and Gemma Brown Dispersal Sale, it was a second win over fences for the seven-year-old who was purchased for €330,000 by Gordon Elliott Racing earlier this year.
