TAMAYUZ COLT TOPS DAY ONE OF TATTERSALLS IRELAND SEPTEMBER YEARLING SALE

Offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, he was purchased by Lily Corporation – bloodstock agent Ananios Antoniadis standing alongside owner Konstantin Zgar, who bid himself and was thrilled with his new purchase. The persistent and thwarted underbidder was Ross Doyle.

“We looked at the horses yesterday and we liked this colt the most,” reported Antoniadis. “He looks a real two-year-old type. He will be trained in Poland, but may move to France or England if he shows ability.”

He is the first yearling to fetch a six-figure sum at the September Sale since 2009 and his sale helped to take the day’s average to €14,005, a 20% per cent improvement on 2012 and the best for day one since 2008. The day’s median was €12,000, again the best since 2008 and up 30% on 2012, while the aggregate finished on €3,333,300 for 230 lots sold.

Lily Corporation tried hard to buy Lot 280, a Mount Nelson colt, also consigned by Castlebridge, but this time came off second best at €85,000 to trainer David Marnane buying with Peter Kelly of Emerald Bloodstock.

“This is a lovely quality colt, and is one for the yard,” said Marnane. “At present I haven’t got an owner for him. Let’s hope he is lucky – I went a bit more than I thought I would have to.”

In total, Lily Corporation bought nine horses today, also spending €44,000 on a Dark Angel colt out of the Group 3-placed Think. Underbidders on this occasion were the Irish trainers Ger Lyons and Johnny Murtagh.

Bloodstock agent Ed Sackville of SackvilleDonald bought three horses today, including a Zebedee colt (Lot 81) from Cooneen Stud for €42,000 and a Dandy Man colt (Lot 57) from Newtownberry Stud. He is out of a half-sister to the good juvenile and Railway Stakes (G2) runner-up Tough As Nails, cost €40,000 and was purchased for trainer Tom Dascombe. The Zebedee colt, an April foal out of the Listed-placed mare Playful (Piccolo), was bought for trainer George Baker, Sackville standing with the trainer’s wife Candida.

“This sale has always been lucky for me,” smiled Sackville after his signing the docket.

An Elnadim colt (Lot 235) is heading to Switzerland after being bought by Miroslav Weiss of Berlair Bloodstock for €42,000. Weiss had particular reason to be interested in this good-looking colt from Airlie Stud – he trains the full-brother who has won six races and over €80,000 in Switzerland.

One likely to be seen next in a breeze-up sale was Lot 256, bought by Willie Brown for €43,000. From Hallstown Stables, the Dandy Man colt is a half-brother to four winners.

Today’s buyers have travelled to Fairyhouse from some 13 different countries, while there was particularly strong representation on the sales grounds from the British training ranks.
