It was another weekend of remarkable success for Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale graduates as American Sonja and Melfi achieved Stakes level victories.
The Joseph O’Brien-trained American Sonja landed the Group 3 Priz Allez France at Longchamp, quickening in good style to win for a fourth time in her career under Dylan Browne McMonagle.
The four-year-old filly was placed on four occasions in Group 3 company last season, and proved too strong for her rivals in what appeared a strong renewal of the race.
Her trainer stated afterwards that the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh is a mid-summer target, while he also mentioned that a trip to the US could be on the agenda later in the season.
American Sonja was purchased at the 2021 September Yearling Sale from Castledillon Stud by Con Marnane for £30,000.
Italian 2,000 Guineas success for Melfi at Capannelle.
The Group 3 Premio Pariolo (Italian 2,000 Guineas) was won by the Endo Botti-trained Melfi. The son of Italian based stallion Kessaar, he was making it three career wins from five career starts, and was adding to a couple of Listed wins last season.
Melfi was purchased at the 2022 September Yearling Sale from Tally-Ho Stud by Razzo Latina for €33,000.
Inspections for the September Yearling Sale will commence shortly. The sale is scheduled to take place on the 24th and 25th September, with Part 2 following on the 26th September.
