ROARING TRADE ON DAY 1 OF TATTERSALLS IRELAND’S DERBY SALE

Lot 133, an outstanding son of Flemensfirth out of five time black type winning dam Spirit Leader from Goldford Stud was bought by Kildare trainer Conor O’Dwyer for €175,000. Under bidder was Paul Nicholls.
An exceptional filly by Robin des Champs from Abbey Stables (Lot 163) marked herself in the record books when selling to Ian Ferguson for €160,000, the third joint-highest price ever paid for a filly at the Derby Sale.
MV Magnier had to outbid a number of interested parties to secure Lot 156, a Flemensfirth gelding out of Theatre Girl from Goldford Stud for €160,000. Commenting on his purchase, “The lads liked him a lot. He is out of a talented mare from a good black type family.”
Aiden Murphy also had to go to €160,000 to ensure the purchase of Lot 192, a Flemensfirth gelding from Ballincurrig House Stud.
The sales ring lit up as crowds gathered around to witness the re-introduction of the Horses in Training Section. Willie Mullins and Harold Kirk secured bumper winner Rathvinden for €100,000. Point to Point winner Amergin will be making his next appearance on a Stateside track as USA owner Irvin S Naylor purchased the son of With Approval for €50,000. The HIT section provided a turnover of €592,000 and an average of €74,000.
The 2013 Derby Sale continues tomorrow with the sale commencing at 10.30am.
