Records Smashed at the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Breeze Up Sale
The highlight of the day was the Church Farm Stables consigned Exceed And Excel filly. The cracking filly, a half-sister to Group 2 winning Chandlery was snapped up by agent Tom Malone for £180,000.
A regular of the Tattersalls Ireland Ascot Sales, Tom Malone commented on his purchase;
“I am delighted to have got her. She is a sharp, precocious two-year-old and came highly recommended by the vendors. She will go into training with Eddie Lynam for Mr Charles Wentworth. Like all good sale pitches, I have been told she’s a Queen Mary filly.”
It was a son of Lonhro that produced the second highest price of the day when selling to Dick O’Gorman Bloodstock for £170,000. The sale resulted in a successful pinhook for vendors’ Kilminfoyle House Stud who purchased the colt in October for $30,000.
Tony Byrne, owner of Ebor winner Litigant teamed up with agent Stephen Hillen to buy the third highest lot of the day. Originally sourced at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale for €30,000, Lot 41, an Equiano colt from Brendan Holland’s Grove Stud was bought for £115,000 and will go into training with Joe Tuite. The colt is a half-brother to Sha Tin Listed winner Flaming Lamborginin and boasts an impressive black-type pedigree.
Commenting on the sale, Richard Pugh, Director of Horses in Training Sales at Tattersalls Ireland commented;
“To more than double the turnover and to sell three horses for over £100,000 in year one of Tattersalls Ireland taking stewardship of the sale is very satisfying. The sale witnessed an influx of purchasers competing actively at all levels and to observe the purchaser profile throughout the sale was to see a real cross section of leading players from the industry.
The indications prior to the sale were very positive given the strength of the catalogue following increased support from our vendors and the success of our graduates on the racetrack. The success today in the ring has surpassed even our most optimistic expectations and there is still massive potential to further build on the progress made next year.”
