MAGNIFICENT WEEKEND FOR TATTERSALLS IRELAND GRADUATES
On Saturday, Cheltenham provided the venue for a Grade 2 double. MANY CLOUDS, unbeaten this season, justified his Gold Cup credentials by winning the Grade 2 Betbright Cup Chase. The eight-year-old was selected by his owner Trevor Hemmings at the 2007 November National Hunt Sale and was purchased on his behalf by Highflyer Bloodstock for €6,000 from breeders’ Windward House Stud.
The Grade 2 double at Cheltenham was completed by ORDO AB CHAO, making it three out of four over hurdles and a career best when landing the Grade 2 Classic Novices’ Hurdle. The win has put the son of Heron Island in the running for the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival. ORDO AB CHAO was sold for a mere €2,800 as a three-year-old at the 2009 August National Hunt Sale by Joe Kavanagh to Graham McKeever.
It was a Tattersalls Ireland 1-2-3 in the Listed Skybet Chase at Doncaster with Derby Sale graduate IF IN DOUBT winning the race, August NH Sale graduate Baileys Concerto in second place and November NH Sale graduate Night In Milan in third. IF IN DOUBT was sold at the 2011 Derby Sale by Abbey Stables to John O’Byrne for €15,000. Prior to this, he was sold as a foal at the 2008 November National Hunt Sale when selling to D Carr for €3,300 from Landscape Stud.
At Leopardstown on Sunday, Derby Sale graduate and three time bumper winner OUTLANDER put himself into contention for one of the Novice Hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival when winning the Grade 2 Novice Hurdle. OUTLANDER was sold at the 2011 Derby Sale by his breeder Ronnie O’Neill’s Whytemount Stud for €78,000 to Philip Fenton.
The Tattersalls Ireland sales season commences next week with the February National Hunt Sale taking place on Tuesday February 3rd. The sale starts at 10am and catalogues can be viewed online.
Nominations for the 2015 Derby Sale are also being accepted.
