HIGHEST TURNOVER IN FIVE YEARS
“We have to be satisfied with the trade this week. We have seen growth in terms of average, median and turnover on last year’s sale despite cataloguing fewer horses. Whilst demand for the Broodmare section was as ever selective there was significant demand for the better quality on offer and it was pleasing to see Golden Sunbird making €110,000. The yearling trade was also strong with increases in both clearance rate, average, median and turnover and there has been extremely strong demand for foals as was evident in the increases in all the key indicators for this category. We acknowledge the challenging conditions for fillies, and we will continue to work tirelessly with both the Irish and UK arms of the industry to try and improve market conditions for fillies.
It was also pleasing to see our usual UK customers and to see a number of French purchasers compete with domestic buyers for stock. We have again had an outstanding year with our national hunt graduates on the racetrack with no less than 30 Festival winners this year. After two years of significant growth the 2012 turnover reflects a year of consolidation. There was continuing solid demand at our other National Hunt Sales during the year with the highlight being a top price of €250,000 at our flagship Derby Sale. We also look forward to reintroducing the historic format of the Derby Sale to include a select horses in training section in 2013. We would like to thank all our vendors and purchasers for their custom in 2012 and we look forward to working with them to improve our service in the season ahead.”
The November Yearling Sale concludes the Sales Season at Tattersalls Ireland this coming Sunday the 18th November.
