EXCEPTIONAL RENEWAL OF TATTERSALLS IRELAND NOVEMBER NH SALE

The Broodmare section concluded the November National Hunt Sale with four Mares making in excess of €50,000 and the highlight being the sale of the former Willie Mullins trained mare TARLA in foal to Shantou offered by the trainer’s Closutton Stables selling for €170,000 to Ciara and Michael Carty’s Kilmoney Cottage Stud.

Michael Carty of Kilmoney Cottage Stud commented:

“She’s been bought for a client to go with his band of very good broodmares. She was the outstanding mare of the sale with an impeccable racing record and was owned and trained by Champion Trainer Willie Mullins. She has a great covering in Shantou and we’re delighted to get her.”

Acting on behalf of Swanbridge Bloodstock, Richard Aston secured the Grade 1 winning mare GEMINI LUCY in foal to Presenting from Mill House Stud for €65,000.

Speaking on the purchase, Aston said;

“She’s been bought for a client and is going to the UK. The mare has a wonderful racing record and a great covering in Presenting.”

Clarendon Farm were consigning foals at Tattersalls Ireland this week and were also purchasers on the final day at the November NH Sale. Acting on their behalf, Rahinston Stud were the successful bidder for Lot 1400, five time and Listed winner SHE RANKS ME with a covering by leading sire Flemensfirth from Castledillon Stud for €64,000.

Harry Fowler of Rahinston Stud said after the purchase;

“She has been bought for a new UK client. Clarendon Farm consigned foals here this week and are reinvesting by purchasing this mare.”

At the conclusion of the sale, Managing Director Roger Casey commented:

“The depth of trade this week has been exceptional as reflected in the growth in the average, median and aggregate with the highlights including a record breaking clearance rate of 81% for foals, 11 foals achieving €50,000 or more and the highest foal turnover recorded since 2007, from a significantly reduced number of lots catalogued. The second staging of the National Hunt Yearling Show in association with the ITBA was again a success and set the tone for the week with the yearling section generating the strongest set of results for this category in six years and the volume of UK based purchasers was particularly striking and accounted for 33% of the turnover for this section. Whilst demand for Older Horses was again selective, the Broodmare section provided the best price paid for a mare of €170,000 since 2007, and the best set of returns for this category since 2008.

We must acknowledge and compliment our hardworking vendors, purchasers and sales day team who had to endure such inclement weather conditions throughout the day on Thursday and for their tireless efforts all week. It was pleasing to see our usual panel of Irish and UK customers joined by an increasing number of French purchasers along with many new faces from the UK and we will continue to endeavour, both at home and overseas, to increase the purchaser base further for 2015. This sale is always considered as the barometer of health for the National Hunt Bloodstock Industry and the results this week have been emphatic and consistent with the upward growth seen at all our National Hunt Sales in general for 2014 and certainly bodes well for the coming year and we look forward now with anticipation to our next sale, the 2015 February National Hunt Sale.”
