Mersey win for YORKHILL
Unbeaten YORKHILL followed up on his Cheltenham success in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle by winning the Grade 1 Mersey Novices’ Hurdle. A two and a quarter length win gave jockey Paul Townend reason to be bullish about his mount commenting "He has some engine. When he felt the others come to him he pulled out more. He's some horse."
Trained by Willie Mullins in the colours of Andrea and Graham Wylie, YORKHILL, by Presenting, was sold as a foal at the 2010 November National Hunt Sale by Parkview Farm for €41,000 to Ian Ferguson.
Third Grade 1 for THISTLECRACK
A front running performance and pace to boost this, secured the Grade 1 Liverpool Stayers’ Hurdle in impressive style for August National Hunt Sale graduate THISTLECRACK. Colin Tizzard, who this week enjoyed more Grade 1 success with Tattersalls Ireland graduates CUE CARD (Derby Sale) and NATIVE RIVER (November National Hunt Sale), will now aim for Punchestown with his undisputed champion of the staying hurdle division.
THISTLECRACK is twice a graduate of Tattersalls Ireland. He was firstly sold as a foal by his breeders RF and SD Knipes’ Cobhall Court Stud at the November National Hunt Sale and sold to John McDonald for €32,000. He missed his opportunity at the 2011 Derby Sale but made the 2011 August National Hunt Sale and was sold to his now owner John Snook for €43,000 by Derrymore House.
