Derby Day Double for the September Yearling Sale including the Group 2 Railway Stakes
Group 2 Railway Stakes win for MEDICINE JACK
The Ger Lyons trained two-year-old MEDICINE JACK followed up on his Maiden win to land the Group 2 Railway Stakes at The Curragh. The Sean Jones owned son of EQUIANO won the highly regarded two-year-old contest under the guidance of Colin Keane.
MEDICINE JACK was purchased at the September Yearling Sale for €28,000 by Ger Lyons from Castletown Stud.
SRUTHAN land Listed Celebration Stakes
Earlier on Saturday, SRUTHAN added a sixth win to his name and a fourth victory in Stakes company. Travelling exceptionally throughout the race in the hands of Colm O’Donoghue, Paul Deegan’s consistent servant outclassed opposition to win the Listed Celebration Stakes in the colours of Robert Ng.
SRUTHAN has proved a lucrative purchase for Paul Deegan; he bought the Arakan gelding at the 2011 September Yearling Sale from Oghill House Stud for a mere €1,000 and has now racked up over €230,000 in prize money.
The September Yearling Sale, the source of three European Classic winners this season, takes place on 20 and 21 September with Part II taking place on 22 September. Inspections for the sale are near to conclusion and this years’ catalogue is shaping up to be the best one yet.
