CLEAN SWEEP OF GRADE 1’S ON DAY ONE OF PUNCHESTOWN FESTIVAL FOR TATTERSALLS IRELAND

FAUGHEEN proved today that he is the best two mile Novice Hurdler this season when impressively winning the Grade 1 Champion Novice Hurdle following up on his recent success in the Grade 1 Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

FAUGHEEN, owned by Mrs Susannah Ricci, trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by Ruby Walsh was sold as a foal at the 2008 November National Hunt Sale by Coolnahay Stud on behalf of his breeder Dr John Waldron for €4,000 to Peter Quinlan.

The ever green SIZING EUROPE recorded his twenty-first victory and his eighth Grade 1 success by winning the Grade 1 Champion Chase ahead of fellow Tattersalls Ireland graduates Ballynagour in second and Savello in third.

Twelve year old SIZING EUROPE, owned by Alan and Ann Potts, trained by Henry de Bromhead and ridden by Andrew Lynch was sold by his breeder Mrs Angela Bracken at the 2002 November National Hunt Sale for €9,000 to Hugh Bleahen.

Tattersalls Ireland graduates provided the top three places in the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase with CARLINGFORD LOUGH winning the contest four and a half lengths ahead of Ballycasey in second and Morning Assembly in third.

Trained by John Kiely for JP McManus and ridden by AP McCoy, CARLINGFORD LOUGH was sold at the 2006 November National Hunt Sale for €80,000 to John O’Byrne.
