ANOTHER RECORD CLEARANCE RATE ON DAY 2 OF TATTERSALLS IRELAND NOVEMBER NH FOAL SALE
Of the 222 horses offered, 193 sold giving another outstanding clearance rate of 87% per cent and taking Day 3’s aggregate to €3,402,000 – an improvement of 16% per cent on 2013, with a broad spectrum of Irish, UK and French purchasers competing fiercely throughout the day
The session’s top price of €65,000 was given by John O’Byrne for Goldford Stud’s Martaline colt (Lot 725), an April-born son of the Grade 2-placed King’s Theatre mare Theatre Girl.
“I’ve not had a lot to do with Martaline yet, but he is doing very well," said O'Byrne. "This is an important horse to look at. He has size, scope, great conformation. I know the family well and Theatre Girl was a very good racemare."
Byrne also went to €60,000 for a Beat Hollow colt (Lot 588) out of Bannow Girl, a half-sister to the Grade 1 winners Bannow Bay, Far From Trouble and Mighty Moss.
The colt was offered by Clonmore House Stud and was the recipient of a timely update – his half-brother The Big Apple, bought by Byrne here in 2010 and owned by JP McManus, won a bumper on November 8 by 12l.
"The half-brother looks as though he has a huge future ahead of him," said O'Byrne. "This horse is a good individual and comes from a good farm."
Clonmore is now managed by Jonathan Deacon after his uncle, Godfrey Deacon, a regular Tattersalls Ireland consignor, passed away last November.
Aiden Murphy went to €60,000 for a Fame And Glory colt, a grandson of the Listed Glenlivet Anniversary 4yo Hurdle winner Titled Dancer, from Ballincurrig House Stud (Lot 639).
“He is a companion to the Robin Des Champs foal I bought yesterday. They are both going to the UK and have been bought to race,” reported Murphy.
The third day of foals continues tomorrow. The sale starts at 10am.
