Derby Sale to Reintroduce Part II and the Addition of a 2YO Section in 2025

Tattersalls Ireland is pleased to announce significant updates to the 2025 Derby Sale. The sale will see the return of a Part II session and feature a two-year-old Store section, creating new opportunities for both vendors and buyers. Although two-year-olds have previously been part of the sale, this marks a significant change in 2025, reflecting our commitment to market demands.

The Derby Sale is a leading producer of Grade 1 performers, consistently offering the finest Stores from Ireland and the UK. Every year, it achieves the highest-priced Store sold at public auction, with this year's standout - a Doctor Dino gelding out of the exceptional broodmare Matnie and sibling to multiple Grade 1 Tattersalls Ireland winning graduates Brighterdaysahead and Caldwell Potter - purchased for €350,000 by Gordon Elliott Racing from Walter Connor’s Sluggara Farm. The new format aims to build on this tradition of producing top performers.

A highlight of the 2025 Derby Sale will be the inclusion of a two-year-old Store section to Part I, a concept gaining traction in other markets but still relatively new in Ireland. This addition will allow vendors to offer their horses a year earlier than usual, giving buyers more options and expanding the selection of horses on offer.

The Derby Sale will follow the unique Point-to-Point and Horses-in-Training sale, which was introduced with great success this year and will return during the same period in May 2025. This sale will not include stores in response to vendor feedback this year. The sale remains unmatched in Ireland, offering a distinctive opportunity for vendors and buyers.

Tattersalls Ireland CEO Simon Kerins commented on the upcoming changes:

"We’re excited to reintroduce Part II to the Derby Sale, and to add the new two-year-old Store section to Part I. These changes reflect our commitment to staying responsive to market trends and providing our clients with a broad range of opportunities. By adopting these updates, we’re ensuring the Derby Sale remains a competitive platform in the Store sale industry."
