Paddy Dunne Cullinan is succeeded as Chairman by Standish Collen. A leading figure in the worlds of racing, equestrian and hunting, he was twice part of Galway Plate historymaking victories. His daughter Anne was the first woman to train the winner of the race, and then his other daughter Sarah became the first – and to date only – woman to ride the winner. Collen owned both winners, one in partnership.
Tattersalls buys a 44% stake in Irish company Ballsbridge International Bloodstock Sales. Name changes to Ballsbridge Tattersalls Ltd.
Willie O’Rourke joins the company full-time as Managing Director succeeding Michael Opperman and the popular veterinary surgeon oversaw the change of the company ownership and its name to Tattersalls Ireland. He also was at the helm when it moved to Fairyhouse and he stepped down from the role in 1990. These were periods of immense change and a time when the Derby Sale set many new records for turnover and individual prices. O’Rourke also was the mastermind of the Pre-Sales Veterinary Certificate, which revolutionised the selling of store horses.
Kenneth Watt retires as Chairman and is replaced by his cousin Michael Watt. First time Ballsbridge Tattersalls Ltd. has a sale to record a turnover in seven figures when the Derby Sale has an aggregate of 1,089,800gns.
Denis Mahony succeeds Standish Collen as Chairman of Ballsbridge Tattersalls.
Tattersalls increases its holding in Ballsbridge Sales and the operation becomes a wholly owned subsidiary called Tattersalls (Ireland). Denis Mahony appointed Chairman.
Tattersalls acquire the former Old Fairyhouse Stud in Ratoath and a modern sales complex was constructed.
The first sale to be held at the new Tattersalls Ireland Sales Complex, the September Yearling Sale was held.

€340,000 is paid for a Presenting gelding by Alan Potts at the Derby Sale. New individual record for a National Hunt store gelding.
Tattersalls Ireland introduce the €100,000 Tattersalls Ireland George Mernagh Memorial Sales Bumper at the Fairyhouse Easter Festival and won by Rising Time trained by Paul Nolan and ridden by Andrew Duff.
Tattersalls buys Brightwells Bloodstock Sales which hold auctions at Cheltenham and Ascot racecourses. The 40th Derby Sale takes place.
When the Milan half-brother to the wonderful multiple Grade 1 and three-time Cheltenham Festival-winning racehorse Altior (Lot 462) was sold for €365,000, creating a new Derby Sale and world record for a store price.
Tattersalls Ireland and Goresbridge Horse Sales are to join forces for Ireland’s only Flat Breeze Up Sale
It proved to be a record-breaking first session for the relocated two-day Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale when Boherguy Stud’s colt by Teofilo (Lot 165) fetched £325,000 (€351,000).
Tattersalls is pleased to announce that Simon Kerins has been appointed as Chief Executive Officer of Tattersalls Ireland with effect from 1st January 2021.

Highest price ever achieved at Tattersalls Ireland: For the second year in succession, the Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale produced an outstanding set of record-breaking results with a new record top price of €520,000, the first time in the sale’s history that the half million mark has been topped (Lot 151).
Tattersalls Ireland Breeze Up Sale recorded a record turnover of €9,599,500. The sale produced a clearance rate of 90%, with a record average set of €43,634. A total of 21 lots sold for six figure sums, and six sold for €200,000 or more. The sale welcomed purchasers from 18 different countries from around the world.
The 50th Derby Sale takes place and produces the highest price store horse sold this year. A Doctor Dino half-brother to three Grade 1 winners is purchased for €350,000, while 25 lots are purchased for €100,000 or more. Ireland’s Premier Store Sale has produced more Grade 1 winners than any other Store Sale, and this looks sure to continue given the quality of horse sold at the 50th edition.
