Outstanding calibre of Gelding pedigrees at the Derby Sale

Tattersalls Ireland's Derby Sale strength is illustrated not just by the success of its graduates but also the calibre of pedigrees it attracts. Eight geldings catalogued in the Derby Sale are out of Black Type winning mares.

A rare offering is Lot 22 a gelding by Kendargent and the only horse by Haras de Colleville's outstanding sire catalogued in the Derby Sale. His dam is the Group 2 May Hill Stakes winner Karasta, who was runner-up in the Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac. Selling through Oaks Farm Stables, this gelding is a half-brother to four winning hurdlers including the Listed winner Karasenir.

Mill House Stud, agent for  Lot 35, a son of top-class sire Martaline out of Knock Down, successful in the Grade 3 Prix La Perichole chase at Auteuil for Robert Collet, and who has already produced three winners.

Stowaway is the sire of the first foal out of the winning juvenile hurdler Maca Rince, who will be sold as Lot 74. The gelding is consigned by Michael Mulligan and his Grade 3 winning dam hails from the family of Group 1 flat stars Relkino and Timarida.

A trio of first foals out of high-class race mares is headed by Lot 209 out of the multiple winner Shop DJ. Successful in the Grade 3 ITBA Mares' Hurdle at Punchestown, she was also second in the Grade 1 Champion Novice Chase. Ballincurrig House Stud consign her first produce, a gelding by Fame And Glory, from the family of Grade 1 winner First Lieutenant.

Peter Nolan Bloodstock consigns Lot 233 a son of Supreme Serenade by Presenting. A daughter of Supreme Leader out of a Strong Gale mare, Supreme Serenade counts the Grade 3 Sandown Handicap Hurdle among her victories.

The late Whytemount Stud sire Stowaway is the sire of Zuzka's first foal. The daughter of Flemensfirth was twice a winner of Grade 3 hurdles and placed in the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle for Willie Mullins. Castletown Quarry Stud consign the gelding as Lot 280

Willie Mullins was the trainer of Vast Consumption and she is the dam of Lot 261, a gelding by Flemensfirth. Vast Consumption won a Grade 2 contest for the maestro of Closutton and this gelding, consigned by Stow Stud, is just her second foal.

Lot 444 from Moygannon Stud has an illustrious pedigree with the exploits of his siblings bringing the spotlight on this family. The gelding by Sholokhov is out of the Grade 2 winning chaser Glen's Music, who has gone on to become an outstanding broodmare. Her best foal so far is the King's Theatre mare Glen's Melody, twice a Grade 1 winner.
