Fourth European Classic Winner In 2016 For September Yearling Sale Graduates As WICKLOW BRAVE Wins Irish St Leger, Gr.1
The September Yearling Sale celebrated its fourth Classic success of 2016 when WICKLOW BRAVE triumphed in the Group 1 Palmerstown House Estate Irish St Leger at the Curragh on Longines Irish Champions Weekend. Frankie Dettori produced a masterful front-running ride on trainer Willie Mullins’ Beat Hollow gelding who now has the Melbourne Cup firmly in his sights as his next target.
WICKLOW BRAVE’s success in the Irish St Leger follows up on GALILEO GOLD’s win in the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas, HAWKSMOOR’s victory in the German 1,000 Guineas and CONSELICE’s success in the Italian 1,000 Guineas firmly cementing the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale’s reputation as Europe’s Most Progressive Yearling Sale.
WICKLOW BRAVE was purchased by agent Bobby O’Ryan at the 2010 September Yearling Sale for €11,000 from Corduff Stud.
OREWA wins the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes
30 horses went to post for the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes, Europe’s longest running sales race. Of the 30 runners, 21 represented British trainers and it was Brian Ellison’s OREWA who took home the lucrative prize for owner Keith Brown. Already a three-time winner, the son of first season sire Helmet got the better of David Barron’s Wick Powell with Ger Lyons’ Medicine Jack finishing in third.
OREWA was sold to his owner Keith Brown, who has enjoyed numerous successes from the September Yearling Sale (most notably with Group 3 and Listed winner TOP NOTCH TONTO) for €18,000 from The Castlebridge Consignment at the 2015 Yearling Sale and has now amassed over €166,000 in win prize money!
